Trail Cleanup Activity
Today was the annual Memorial Day weekend trail cleanup event. The turnout this year was half of last year's attendance - only 9 hearty souls -but the work accomplished was both noteworthy and unusual. Since many of Creston's trails had been previously cleared of debris by members of the Trails Committee and still other trails were assessed as having little need, today's efforts were concentrated on clearing the ground cover on Catawba and Pigeon Loop trails and cutting back intruding branches on the latter as well as minor cleanup on Allison and Daniel's. Most important, however, was the substantial work required to move the Allison Trail trailhead and to build a temporary rock crossing of the Catawba River at the new location. The trailhead was moved to avoid a large swampy area at the original site. When funding permits, a new footbridge will be built across the river to make crossing easier and safer.
