In Maintenance
Laura and I were hiking today after all the major rains on Monday. Headed down Moore's Branch and there is lots of erosion and rutting. On the way to the falls, we cleared away some of the logs, leaves and rocks from one of the small bridges. When we headed down Catawba toward Pigeon Loop, we encountered the following: After navigating over this, we cleared more away from the other iron bridge. Then found the new Allison Trail footbridge in the following state: After a wet half hour of work, it now looks like this. Probably needs a better footing in light of shifts. Main issue was what appeared to be the old bridge lodged under it (note it is in water just past it in the pic). We ended up with less hiking, but are glad we finally were able to help the trails committee, since we always seem to be away on volunteer work days! David & Laura Moench, cc-7
