911

Everyone understands, of course, that in the case of any emergency, the most important immediate course of action is to place a call to the 911 emergency dispatch center. However, if you acquire telephone service for your home in Creston from Charter Communications and if you do not specify at the time of installation that you reside in McDowell County, not Buncombe County, your 911 call might end up in the wrong dispatch center. This could delay a response. Check the Utilities page on this web site for more information about ordering phone service from Charter.

Hospitals

The closest hospital to Creston is McDowell Hospital located at 430 Rankin Dr. in Marion (828-659-5000). Via Mt. Hebron Rd., Bat Cave Rd. and I-40, McDowell Hospital is 19.2 miles from the Creston entrance (estimated drive time: 32 minutes). The largest - and only slightly more distant - medical facility is Mission Hospital located at 509 Biltmore Ave in Asheville (828-213-1111). The distance to Mission from the Creston entrance via Rte. 9 and I-40 is 22.7 miles. The estimated drive time is the same at 32 minutes.

Helicopter landing site

Creston has an emergency helicopter landing site approved by the flight director of Mission Hospital and McDowell County EMS.  In case of an emergency, you should call 911, mention that you are located in McDowell County, and the ambulance personnel responding to your emergency will determine if a helicopter needs to be called. The approved helicopter landing site is located at the Roundabout.
